Louisiana Gaming Revenue Records The Ninth Consecutive Month of Decline
Louisiana Gaming Control Board released on 16 November 2023 the gross gaming revenue figures achieved by the state gambling industry in October. According to the Board, the revenues from the overall gambling operations reached the level of $174.5 million to testify about a 2.5% decline when compared to the same month in 2022. The October’s gaming revenue total reportedly represents the ninth straight month of the year-on-year decline of gaming revenues in Louisiana.
Lower Revenue Figures:
According to the source, the Louisiana retail sports betting operators collectively handled around $32 million to record the $3.3 million revenue in October. Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in St. Landry Parish reportedly generated $5.9 million, which is a 2.5% year-over-year decline. In the same month, the performance of land-based casino properties showed different trends when compared to October 2022 but a significant number of these facilities reported lower figures to align with the overall market performance.
Lake Charles Performance:
In October 2023, the performance of Louisiana properties was mainly driven by The Lake Charles district which recorded the gaming revenue of $63.4 million. The figure, though, represents a year-over-year decline of 4.2%. The contribution of the district was simultaneously led by the Golden Nugget Lake Charles which recorded the highest revenue level of all the Lake Charles properties with $23.6 million in gaming revenue. L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles followed with $22.2 million, while Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel generated $10.9 million in revenues. Horseshoe Lake Charles posted $6.7 million to present the lowest figure in the Lake Charles district.
Shreveport/Bossier Performance:
At the same time, casino properties in the Shreveport/Bossier district collectively reported $44.8 million of gross gaming revenues generated in October to testify about a 3.6% increase on the year-over-year basis. As a sequence of the total, the Margaritaville Resort Casino generated $14.4 million in revenues with the Horseshoe Bossier City following with $13.3 million and Bally’s Shreveport Casino & Hotel posting $8.1 million in revenues.
New Orleans October Result:
In New Orleans district, Harrah’s New Orleans recorded $19.6 million of gross gaming revenue to lead the casino market performance in the district. As reported, Boomtown Casino & Hotel generated $8.6 million in revenues, with Treasure Chest Casino ending the month with $6.3 million in revenues. Overall, the casino revenue declined 12.2% in comparison to October 2022 to settle at the $39.9 million level.
Baton Rouge Figures:
Baton Rouge district reportedly generated $20.6 million in gross gaming revenues during the month to stand for a 13.3% increase in comparison to the same month of 2022. L’Auberge Casino Hotel reportedly generated $13.4 million in gaming revenues, with the Queen of Baton Rouge reporting an increase of as much as 50.8% over October 2022 generating $6.4 million in gross gaming revenues. The Belle of Baton Rouge reached the $0.8 million revenue level.
Regardless of the outstanding performance of some of the above properties, Louisiana gaming market marked October 2023 as the ninth consecutive month of decline in overall revenues when compared to the same month in 2022.
